Terms of Service

Welcome to CollegeOS (the "Service"), operated by Chortle Labs ("Chortle Labs", "we", "us", or "our"). These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Service.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian has reviewed and accepted these Terms on your behalf.

2. Educational Guidance Disclaimer

CollegeOS provides educational tools, recommendations, insights, and planning resources to support students and families during the college admissions process. The Service is informational only and is not a substitute for guidance from a school counselor, admissions officer, financial aid professional, or licensed advisor.

3. No Admission, Scholarship, or Aid Guarantee

Chortle Labs does not guarantee any specific outcome, including college admission, scholarship awards, financial aid, acceptance rates, future career success, or any other result. Admission probability estimates and pathway suggestions are informational estimates and do not represent decisions by any institution.

4. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer

The Service uses artificial intelligence to generate recommendations, reports, summaries, resume drafts, and other content. AI-generated content may contain inaccuracies, omissions, or out-of-date information and should be independently verified before you rely on it.

5. Accounts and Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide, maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials, and all activity under your account. Parent accounts may only be linked to students with appropriate consent.

6. User Responsibilities and Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Provide false, misleading, or fraudulent information.
  • Misuse the Service or use it for any unlawful purpose.
  • Submit harmful, infringing, defamatory, or harassing content.
  • Attempt to disrupt or interfere with the Service, other users, or our infrastructure.
  • Reverse-engineer, scrape, copy, or resell the Service, its content, or its AI outputs in bulk.
  • Impersonate another person, school, or organization.

7. Your Content

You retain ownership of the content you submit to the Service. You grant Chortle Labs a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive license to host, process, and display your content as needed to operate and provide the Service to you, including processing by AI systems and third-party providers as described in the Privacy Policy.

8. Subscriptions and Billing

Some features require a paid subscription. By starting a subscription, you authorize Chortle Labs and its payment processor (currently Stripe) to charge the applicable fees, taxes, and any recurring renewal charges to your selected payment method until you cancel.

  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled.
  • You can manage or cancel your subscription from the billing area in your account; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
  • Except where required by law or expressly stated, fees are non-refundable.
  • We may change pricing and plan features with reasonable notice.

9. Third-Party Integrations

The Service may integrate with third-party services, such as Stripe and Google Calendar. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies, and Chortle Labs is not responsible for their availability, accuracy, or actions.

10. Intellectual Property

The Service, including the CollegeOS name and branding, software, UI, recommendation systems, reports, templates, documentation, and all related intellectual property, is owned by Chortle Labs or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property and other laws. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of the Service or its components to you.

11. Termination

You may delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, abuse the Service, or create legal or security risk for Chortle Labs or other users.

12. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement, to the maximum extent permitted by law.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Chortle Labs is not responsible or liable for:

  • Admissions, scholarship, or financial aid decisions made by any institution.
  • Outcomes that depend on or result from reliance on the Service's recommendations or AI-generated content.
  • Missed deadlines, lost data, or interruptions in third-party services such as calendar or payment providers.
  • Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenues, data, or goodwill.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Chortle Labs harmless from claims arising out of your violation of these Terms, your content, or your misuse of the Service.

15. Changes to the Service or Terms

We may update the Service and these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the Service or by email. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
