Terms of Service

Last updated: August 4, 2026

Welcome to College OS (the “Service”), operated by Chortle Labs (“we”, “us”, or “our”). These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Service. By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.

1. Who can use College OS

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian has reviewed and accepted these Terms on your behalf. Parent accounts may only be linked to students with appropriate consent.

You can create an account with an email address and password or by signing in with Google. Optional Google Calendar and Gmail connections are described in our Google Data Use page and are never required to use the Service.

1a. Family workspaces

College OS supports linked student and parent accounts working in a shared workspace. Members you invite can view and edit planning information in that workspace, subject to the sharing controls in the Service — for example, a student's essay and Story Bank content is private by default until the student grants access. You are responsible for who you invite and for the activity of members you add.

2. Educational guidance only

College OS provides educational tools, recommendations, and organizational features to help students and families navigate the college admissions process. These currently include Profile Home, Explore Schools, Top College Matches, Shortlist and college comparison, Smart Resume, Activities, Programs & Training, transcript upload and parsing, essay and writing coaching, Opportunities (scholarships, competitions, research, summer, internship, and leadership programs), and application planning and deadline tracking. The Service is informational only and is not a substitute for guidance from a school counselor, admissions officer, financial-aid professional, or licensed advisor.

3. No admissions or aid guarantee

We do not guarantee any specific outcome, including college admission, scholarship awards, financial aid, or any other result. Admission chance estimates and recommendations are informational and do not represent decisions by any institution.

College lists, tier labels (safety, target, reach), Top College Matches, major recommendations, admission likelihood estimates, cost and tuition figures, deadlines, opportunity listings, and eligibility information are estimates or summaries compiled from available data and may be incomplete or out of date. Always confirm deadlines, requirements, costs, and policies directly with the institution or program before relying on them.

4. AI-generated content

The Service uses artificial intelligence to help generate recommendations, drafts, summaries, resumes, coaching questions, diagnostics, and other content. AI-generated content may contain inaccuracies or out-of-date information and should be independently verified before you rely on it.

Smart Resume output and transcript parsing are drafting aids: you are responsible for reviewing every generated resume, extracted course, GPA, test score, and activity entry for accuracy before submitting it anywhere. The writing coach is designed to support your own authorship and does not produce submit-ready application prose; you are responsible for complying with the honesty and originality policies of every institution you apply to.

5. Your account

You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you provide, for keeping your sign-in credentials confidential, and for activity that happens under your account. Notify us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Provide false, misleading, or fraudulent information.
  • Use the Service for any unlawful or harmful purpose.
  • Submit content that is infringing, defamatory, harassing, or otherwise inappropriate.
  • Upload transcripts, resumes, or other documents belonging to someone else without their permission.
  • Submit AI-generated material as your own original work where an institution prohibits it.
  • Disrupt, probe, or interfere with the Service or with other users.
  • Reverse-engineer, scrape, resell, or bulk-copy the Service or its content.
  • Impersonate another person, school, or organization.

7. Your content

You keep ownership of the content you submit to the Service — including profile information, activities, experience entries, transcripts and other uploads, essays and Story Bank items, shortlists, and feedback or Contact us messages. You grant Chortle Labs a limited, worldwide, non-exclusive license to host, process, and display your content as needed to provide the Service to you, including processing by AI systems as described in the Privacy Policy. You confirm you have the right to submit the content you upload.

8. Beta features and changes

Some parts of the Service may be labeled as beta or preview and may change, be limited, or be removed. Beta features — including newer AI recommendation, opportunity discovery, and optional Google integrations — are provided without any service-level commitment and may produce incomplete results. We may add, modify, or discontinue features and functionality over time.

9. Subscriptions and billing

Some features may require a paid subscription. If you start a paid plan, you authorize us and our payment processor (currently Stripe) to charge the applicable fees, taxes, and recurring renewal charges to your selected payment method until you cancel.

  • Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled.
  • You can manage or cancel from the billing area of your account; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
  • Except where required by law or expressly stated, fees are non-refundable.
  • We may change pricing and plan features with reasonable notice.

College OS is currently free during the beta period.

10. Third-party services

The Service works with third-party services such as Google (Sign-In and, if you connect them, Google Calendar and Gmail), Stripe for payments, our email delivery provider, and the AI and hosting providers described in the Privacy Policy. Your use of those services is governed by their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for their availability or actions.

11. Intellectual property

The Service — including the College OS name and branding, software, user interface, recommendation output, templates, and related materials — is owned by Chortle Labs or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of the Service or its components to you.

12. Termination

You may delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or that create legal or safety risk for Chortle Labs or other users.

13. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement, to the maximum extent permitted by law.

14. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Chortle Labs is not responsible or liable for:

  • Admissions, scholarship, or financial-aid decisions made by any institution.
  • Outcomes that depend on or result from reliance on recommendations or AI-generated content in the Service.
  • Inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated college, cost, deadline, or opportunity information, including admission likelihood estimates and generated resumes.
  • Missed deadlines, lost data, or interruptions in third-party services.
  • Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, revenues, data, or goodwill.

15. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Chortle Labs harmless from claims arising out of your violation of these Terms, your content, or your misuse of the Service.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced in the Service or by email. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.

17. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction where Chortle Labs is established, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. The specific jurisdiction and venue will be confirmed by legal counsel prior to public launch.
