Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 4, 2026

College OS (the “Service”) is operated by Chortle Labs(“we”, “us”, or “our”). This policy explains, in plain language, what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Information you provide

  • Account details — your name, email address, and (if you create a password) a securely stored password. You can also choose to sign in with Google. Connecting Google Calendar or Gmail is optional and separate from signing in; see our Google Data Use page.
  • Student profile — high school, graduation year, coursework, test scores, AP scores, interests, intended majors, home state, and goals you choose to share on Profile Home.
  • Experience and recognition — activities, work experience, projects, research, leadership, volunteering, awards and honors, programs & training, and skills, tools & expertise you add on Profile Home. These entries sync into Activities and Smart Resume.
  • Writing — essay projects, drafts, Story Bank entries, and text you choose to submit to the writing coach.
  • Transcripts and uploads — transcripts or similar documents you upload so coursework, GPA, and class rank can be filled in for you. You can replace or remove an uploaded file at any time.
  • College plan — the colleges you explore, shortlist, compare, and apply to, plus intended majors, application rounds, deadlines, and status you track.
  • Opportunities — scholarships, competitions, research, summer, internship, and leadership opportunities you save and track.
  • Family information — if you invite a parent or student, we record the relationship so the right people can collaborate on the same workspace.
  • Support and feedback — messages you send us and feedback you submit in-app, including messages sent through the in-app feedback panel or the Contact us form.

2. Information we generate

Using the profile information you share, College OS produces personalized recommendations: Top College Matches and tier estimates, personalized major recommendations, admission likelihood estimates, college comparisons and deep dives, opportunity matches, Smart Resume drafts and resume-coach suggestions, and application-planning reminders in Stay on Track. These outputs are estimates, not guarantees, and stay associated with your account and workspace.

3. How we use information

  • To provide the Service — build your profile, generate recommendations, and organize your college plan, shortlist, and application timeline.
  • To generate your Smart Resume and suggest improvements to it.
  • To surface relevant opportunities such as scholarships, competitions, and programs.
  • To let students and parents collaborate on the same workspace.
  • To respond to feedback and Contact us messages you send.
  • To send account-related messages, deadline reminders, and product updates (you can adjust email preferences).
  • To operate, secure, and improve the Service.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

4. AI-assisted features

College OS uses artificial intelligence to help generate recommendations, summaries, writing-coaching questions, diagnostics, planning aids, and other guidance from the information you provide. The Writing Coach is designed to preserve student authorship and does not create submit-ready application prose. AI-generated content is informational and may contain inaccuracies. Please review it, and confirm important details — like deadlines, requirements, and official policies — directly with the relevant institutions before relying on them.

Depending on the deployed configuration, College OS sends the information needed for an AI task to Google Gemini directly or through the Lovable AI Gateway. College OS does not use your personal information to train its own generalized AI models. Provider retention and training practices are governed by our configured service terms and contracts.

5. Service providers

We use a small set of trusted service providers to host the Service, deliver email, and process payments. These providers act on our behalf under contracts that limit how they may use your information. We share only what they need to perform their role.

  • Google — optional Google Sign-In. See our Google Data Use page for Google Sign-In and the optional Google Calendar and Gmail connections, plus Google Gemini processing for configured AI features.
  • Lovable — application infrastructure and, when configured, an AI gateway used to reach the selected model provider.
  • Resend — delivery of account, reminder, and notification email.
  • Stripe — payment processing, when paid plans are enabled. Card details are collected and stored by Stripe; we do not store full card numbers.

We do not otherwise share your personal information, except when you ask us to (for example by inviting a family member or sharing a link), or when required by law or to protect the safety and rights of users.

6. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls that isolate each family's workspace. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Data retention

  • Account information and writing you explicitly save, including essay projects and Story Bank items, are kept for the life of your account unless you delete them sooner.
  • In a selected essay project, Writing Coach messages, working drafts, snapshots, feedback, and suggestion decisions are saved automatically after you accept the current Writing Coach notice. Story Bank items are saved only when you explicitly choose to save them.
  • Support messages and in-app feedback are kept for up to 24 months.
  • Transcripts and other documents you upload are kept until you replace or delete them, or until you delete your account.
  • If you connect Google Calendar or Gmail, the connection and its encrypted tokens are kept until you disconnect or delete your account. Gmail message bodies and subjects are not stored; only the structured decision suggestion and a short matched excerpt are saved for your review.
  • Operational and email delivery logs are kept for up to 12 months.
  • When you delete your account, we remove your personal information from active systems. Residual copies in routine encrypted backups age out on their own schedule.

8. Your choices

  • View and edit your profile from Settings.
  • Export your data from Settings.
  • Delete your account from Settings; this removes your personal data from active systems.
  • Contact us to exercise any additional rights available to you under applicable law.

9. Parent and student accounts

College OS supports both student and parent accounts. Family members can collaborate on academic-planning information. Raw essay and Story Bank content for a linked student is private by default; the student can grant parents view-only or collaboration access. A workspace without a linked student account is managed by its parent account.

10. Children's privacy

College OS is designed for high school students (13 and older) and their families. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

11. Cookies and analytics

We use a small number of first-party cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. Any product analytics we use are first-party and are not shared for advertising.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes in the Service or by email and update the “Last updated” date above.
