College OS (the “Service”) is operated by Chortle Labs(“we”, “us”, or “our”). This policy explains, in plain language, what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Using the profile information you share, College OS produces personalized recommendations: Top College Matches and tier estimates, personalized major recommendations, admission likelihood estimates, college comparisons and deep dives, opportunity matches, Smart Resume drafts and resume-coach suggestions, and application-planning reminders in Stay on Track. These outputs are estimates, not guarantees, and stay associated with your account and workspace.
We do not sell personal information and do not show targeted advertising to anyone, including students under 18.
College OS uses artificial intelligence to help generate recommendations, summaries, writing-coaching questions, diagnostics, planning aids, and other guidance from the information you provide. The Writing Coach is designed to preserve student authorship and does not create submit-ready application prose. AI-generated content is informational and may contain inaccuracies. Please review it, and confirm important details — like deadlines, requirements, and official policies — directly with the relevant institutions before relying on them.
College OS sends only the information an AI task needs to the provider configured for that task: OpenAI for writing coaching, strategy, and recommendation reasoning; Google Gemini for résumé and transcript parsing, odds detail, research summaries, and the optional Gmail decision classifier; OpenRouter as a same-model fallback for either; and the Lovable AI Gateway for the Smart Resume illustration and as an operator fallback. College research that carries no personal information also uses Perplexity, Firecrawl, OpenAlex, and Google Places. Before applicant context reaches a model we remove names, email addresses, your high school, and demographic answers; the demographic fields themselves are never included. Text you write yourself, such as an essay draft, is sent as written when you use a feature that works on it. Under the API terms we operate under, these providers do not use the content we send to train their models; OpenAI and Google keep short-term abuse-monitoring logs (OpenAI for up to 30 days). College OS does not use your personal information to train its own generalized AI models.
We use a small set of trusted service providers to host the Service, deliver email, and process payments. These providers act on our behalf under contracts that limit how they may use your information. We share only what they need to perform their role.
We do not otherwise share your personal information, except when you ask us to (for example by inviting a family member or sharing a link), or when required by law or to protect the safety and rights of users.
Connected AI assistants (optional). You can connect an assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT to your College OS account. If you do, it can read — with your own sign-in, read-only, and only after you approve our consent screen — your account email, student display names, college lists and shortlists, tier and admission-odds estimates with their breakdowns, academic inputs (grades, test scores, course rigor), intended majors, interests, activities and awards you entered, deadlines, and essay, recommender, and checklist progress. It never receives essay text, uploads, transcripts, or demographic fields, and it can never change anything. Our database enforces this: an assistant's sign-in can only read those categories, only for the students you chose on the consent screen or in Settings. We never start this sharing. You can revoke it under Settings → Connected AI or in the assistant's own settings. How the assistant handles what you share is governed by its provider's policy. If your browser has a built-in AI agent, College OS pages can answer its questions in your own signed-in tab with the same facts you see there, read-only; those reads are listed under Settings → Connected AI as well.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls that isolate each family's workspace. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
College OS supports both student and parent accounts. Family members can collaborate on academic-planning information. Raw essay and Story Bank content for a linked student is private by default; the student can grant parents view-only or collaboration access. A workspace without a linked student account is managed by its parent account.
College OS is designed for high school students (13 and older) and their families. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
We use a small number of first-party cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. Any product analytics we use are first-party and are not shared for advertising.
We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes in the Service or by email and update the “Last updated” date above.
